A guy passed on to me three electric epees. He doesn't fence anymore. Anyway, last year, while he was without power thanks to IKE, the blades became uber-rusted. The tips still depress and give me a light on my test box.
I have not yet taken the tips apart.
Any thoughts on some best practices for belated maintenance so that they care either be rehabilitated or, at least, scavenged for parts.
"Free speech is an act of desperation. It is a last resort, an onslaught of quiet fury, and -- in most cases -- an insult to, and abandonment of, vital social norms. Men who murder have usually lost their inhibitions only for a moment; but men who speak freely have lost them forever, and are thus as dangerous to a society as a mad dog. "-John "Birdman" Bryant
Try the sanding block that looks like an eraser...in modeling circles it's called a track cleaner, or Bright Boy. Can be found at model train stores. Fine steel wool works as well (wear gloves, or you WILL ge splinters in you!) If none of those can get rid of it, find someone with a wire wheel on a grinder setup, or a Dremel.
